ZAF History:
In the 1950s ZAF was a producer of full and half mannequins for Standa and the women behind the budding baby boom, who were just discovering the wonders of the department store. But the years flew by and as the heady 1960s burst onto the scene, so did the Fiat 600 utility car, household appliances and supermarkets. The American model of carefree consumption was a resounding success and the Zentile brothers were quick to recognise the trend and respond to the changing marketplace. With typical Italian ingenuity, they began to produce shopfitting display systems featuring a metal structure and double-panelled wooden shelves, initially for the orignal Standa branch in via Torino in Milan.
Industrial Development:
Innovative technical features, reflecting both a desire for the new and continuity with Italian tradition, combined with high quality materials and a special commitment to personal safety, ensured that the systems were an immediate success. And so ZAF shopfitting products began to play an increasingly prominent role in the retail sector of the period, with shopfitting projects commissioned by the Stella and Standa supermarkets and the Autogrill Pavesi food and beverage chain. The companys first shelving factory began in 1960 in Bolate and in 1971 it was joined by the Zibido San Giacomo site, which was extended in 2002 to compensate for the closure of the Bollate site in 2000.
ZAF today:
Today Zibido San Giacomo is a major industrial operation with two production sites, 15,000 square metres of covered factory space, 110 employees and about 9,000 tonnes of metal transformed each year fro international markets, where the company reports constant business growth and has completed projects in France, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Poland, the Arab Emirates and Lebanon. Zaf closely monitors market evolution and its best known customers include Bennet supermarkets (58 points of sale in northern Italy), the Autogrill food and beverage chain and Spanish department store chain El Corte Ingles. ZAF has been a leading producer of shopfitting display solutions in large scale retail operations for more than fifty years. The company was born and has grown up with this retail segment, providing a prompt response in terms of shopfitting design, materials and safety. The Zaf sales and technical office works with customers as an operating partner in the true sense of the word, able not only to design specific shopfitting solutions for all special needs, but also, drawing on the company’s industrial capacity, to develop ad hoc products that meet special aesthetic and functional requirements. ZAF does not rest on its laurels, but looks to the future, constantly investing in research and development as it works to be the ideal partner, one who can listen, develop shopfitting projects and provide ongoing assistance for the shopfitting industry.
